I have always loved the sound of a spanish guitar since i was young …

Here are three great uses of one , first up balearic rockers Mountain of One with the superb track Ride from their first EP … here a spanish guitar and an electric guitar battle it out in the sky on a beach in Ibiza

Next super producer Trentemoller remixs the Djumma soundsystem … I can’t stress the awesomeness of this one ..  Trentemollers production is nothing short of breathtaking .. the morphing of guitar into synthesisor and back again .. with a distinctively arabic twist … genius … one of my favourite tracks ever

Finally Krafty Kuts serves up a slice of Flamenco breakbeat …………

Soundtrack to The End of the World

Posted in Uncategorized on February 15, 2010 by steelrat38

“The band is perhaps best known for their lengthy instrumental songs and large membership. With nine semi-permanent members, they create prolonged tracks which utilize short movements, wide volume changes, and numerous recorded and sampled sounds. Studio albums typically contain no more than five songs, and often omit the band’s name and track titles from the cover and artwork. ”

Canadian Post Rockers   – Godspeed you Black Emperor , provided us with a soundtrack for the end of the world in their 1997 release simply entitled F♯A♯∞

It has only three tracks ,,, heres the first one for you … not everyones thing .. but if you like it .. i totally recommend you buy the album … one of the most evocative intelligent and thought provoking pieces of music I ever heard …….

Lost Property from A Wasted Youth

Back in the dark days of the troubles in Northern Ireland .. in the early eighties … there was a club in an old ballroom … called the Plaza ..

It was bring your own … was as rough and ready as could be and was full of a mixture of Belfasts underground nightlife .. goths, punks , mods , new romantics , disco kids and the boystown gang

It was here that I first heard all of the music that led me into being a DJ … it was here i first heard Bauhaus, The Smiths, Sisters of Mercy , Cocteau Twins, Talking Heads , Magazine , The Doors, Joy Division , New Order, Electro , Disco, Hip Hop, Nina Simone …………. all the really good stuff …

In the few years before it closed it would also have been where I first heard early House Music …………

It was absolutely brilliant .. I cannot describe what it was like when i first walked into that place and was blown away by the style of the people and the dark sleazy edge it all had .. i felt like i had discovered another world .. away from suburban boredom and the dark depressing news of the troubles …

I was hooked instantly and have never looked back …

For anyone else reading this who was there … theres an ace facebook group over at!/pages/My-jeans-got-bogging-at-the-Delta-and-then-at-the-Plaza/278127038019?
